Twenty-five years of service in public administration: The path from India to the whole world

A twenty-five-year journey in public service: From India to the global scale
On October 7, 2026, India marks an important milestone: 25 years of uninterrupted public service by His Excellency Shri Narendra Modi. From October 7, 2001, when he assumed the office of Chief Minister of Gujarat state, to his current role as Prime Minister of India, this quarter of a century has coincided with a period of profound transformation both within India itself and in the country's relations with the international community.
As a member of the Indian diaspora living abroad and a recipient of the 2023 Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Award, I have had the opportunity to observe the changes in India not only from within the country, but also from the perspective of the Indian community around the world. For millions of Indians living abroad, India's progress is closely linked to our identity, our self-confidence, and our sense of belonging to the Motherland.
One of the clearest manifestations of this process is India's expanding engagement with the international community. Today, the Indian diaspora sees itself not just as a community living outside India, but as a vital bridge between India and their countries of residence. This is particularly evident in the relations between India and Uzbekistan, which share deep historical and civilizational ties. As Chairman of the Indian Community in Uzbekistan, I have been a direct witness to the sincere friendship and warm relations between our two countries.
The Prime Minister of India, His Excellency Shri Narendra Modi, has visited Uzbekistan four times — in 2015, 2016, 2022, and recently in August 2026. His latest visit was of particular historical significance. During the visit, India and Uzbekistan elevated their bilateral relations to the level of a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. Agreements were reached to expand cooperation in trade, investment, healthcare, pharmaceuticals, education, digital technologies, energy, critical minerals, tourism, and culture.
The presentation of a high state award to the Prime Minister of India, His Excellency Shri Narendra Modi, by the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, His Excellency Shavkat Mirziyoyev, during this visit was also of special significance. In recognition of his contribution to strengthening the bonds of friendship between the peoples of India and Uzbekistan, he was awarded Uzbekistan's highest state honor — the Order of "Oliy Darajali Do‘stlik" (Friendship of the Highest Degree). For the Indian community in Uzbekistan, this was a proud and unforgettable moment. The Indian community in Uzbekistan is firmly committed to making a worthy contribution to further strengthening the friendship between India and Uzbekistan.
The focus on environmental sustainability is equally important in the development of India-Uzbekistan cooperation. Prime Minister Shri Modi's "Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam" — "Planting a sapling in the name of Mother" initiative is receiving widespread support across India. During his recent visit to Uzbekistan, this noble initiative harmonized with Uzbekistan's "Yashil Makon" nationwide project aimed at improving the ecological situation and expanding green spaces.
For me, this initiative carries a much broader meaning than simply planting a tree. It reflects our shared commitment to ensuring a healthier planet and a better future for our children. To this end, the Indian community and Indian entrepreneurs in Uzbekistan have launched an initiative to plant 35,000 trees in the country.
Over the past 12 years under the leadership of Shri Narendra Modi, India's international standing has also grown significantly. The country's potential and global presence have expanded across diplomacy, technology, infrastructure, digital public services, entrepreneurship, space exploration, healthcare, and many other fields.
