Trump said he would give $5,000 to each American if Republicans win the election

US President Donald Trump said that if Republicans retain control of Congress in the November elections, he would give $5,000 to every adult citizen.

If Republicans win in both the House of Representatives and the US Senate, that is, in both chambers, I will give $5,000 to every adult citizen of the US due to our immense economic strength and success, Trump said at the Republican Party convention in Dallas.

He said the only condition for using the money is that it must be spent within the US. The payments promised by the president will likely exceed $1 trillion, and it is unknown how they will be funded. Tying the payments to a single party's victory in both chambers could also raise legal questions.

Less than an hour after Trump's statement, Vice President JD Vance seemed to try to partially soften the president's proposal. He said the payments might not be given to wealthy Americans. Vance noted that the payments could be funded by revenues from customs tariffs. However, this amount is not sufficient for the proposed sum.
