Travelodge boss steps down after security issues in rooms

The BBC revealed in March how a woman staying at a Maidenhead hotel was sexually assaulted after a man lied to get a key card to her room.

The chief executive of Travelodge, Jo Boydell, is resigning from her position as the hotel chain addresses security concerns following a sexual assault incident at one of its properties.

In December 2022, a female guest at a Maidenhead hotel was sexually assaulted after an individual deceived staff into providing him with a key card to her room. This incident prompted an independent examination of the hotel giant's security protocols.

Kyran Smith received a sentence of seven years and six months in prison for the assault.

Ray Reidy will temporarily assume Boydell's role. Reidy stated, "We remain focused on the safety and well-being of our guests and will continue taking the actions necessary to strengthen the business."

Separately, reports emerged of guests being mistakenly issued keys to already occupied hotel rooms on two occasions.
