Todd Boely and Mark Walters to sell Chelsea stake - Financial Times

Todd Boley and Mark Walter intend to sell their shares in Chelsea - according to the Financial Times.
Chelsea chairman Todd Boley and billionaire Mark Walter have held talks to sell their 12.8 percent stake in the club to Clearlake Capital, the club's majority owner. The Financial Times reported this.
Clearlake Capital currently owns 61.5 percent of Chelsea. The remaining 38.5 percent is divided between Walter, Boley and Swiss businessman Hans-Joachim Wiess. This consortium bought the London club in 2022 for 2.5 billion pounds and invested an additional 1.75 billion pounds in the team. If the deal goes through, the club's total value would be more than 5 billion pounds ($6.8 billion).
The publication notes that the purchase agreement in 2022 contains a clause prohibiting the sale of shares to third parties for the first 10 years. Therefore, only Clearlake Capital or Wyss can buy Boeli and Walter's stake.
Some time earlier, Mark Walter sold the NBA's Los Angeles Lakers for more than $ 12 billion amid an ongoing investigation by the US prosecutor's office into possible financial fraud.
For information, Chelsea was owned by Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich from 2003 to 2022. In March 2022, he was forced to abandon the club after the UK imposed sanctions against him.
