Timur Ishmetov presented a five-year fintech strategy.
At the international Silk Road Finance & Technology Forum, Central Bank Chairman Timur Ishmetov announced the implementation of a national fintech development strategy for Uzbekistan, covering the period from 2026 to 2030.
Delegates from 74 countries participated in the event. The head of the regulator emphasized that last year, the global fintech sector generated approximately $500 billion in revenue, demonstrating 22% growth, with 75% of the industry's largest companies already profitable.
According to the head of the Central Bank, Central Asia possesses significant potential thanks to its young population and active digitalization. In Uzbekistan, 57% of payments are already made cashless. As part of the objectives set by the president, the plan is to attract $1 billion in foreign investment to the fintech sector by 2030 and train 5,000 young specialists. The regulator's strategy includes five key development areas: creating favorable conditions for product launches, strengthening regional financial connectivity in Central Asia, developing modern infrastructure and instant payment systems, exploring digital assets, and investing in skilled labor training. Progress in increasing financial inclusion for women, whose share of bank account holders increased from 39% to 61%, was particularly noted.
