Uzbek tennis player Mariya Timofeeva has advanced to the second round of the US Open. She defeated Slovenian Tamara Zidansek 6-3, 7-5 in the first round.

Zidansek, currently ranked 146th in the WTA rankings, rose to 22nd in the world rankings in 2022 and reached the semifinals of Roland Garros in 2021.

Timofeeva herself is currently ranked 86th in the WTA rankings.
