Theft of liquefied gas worth 368 million soums detected in Karakalpakstan and Samarkand region
Cases of liquefied gas theft have been recorded in the Amudarya district of Karakalpakstan and the Nurabad district of the Samarkand region. The total damage exceeded 368 million soums.
In the Amudarya district, employees of "Amudaryotumangaz" issued electronic cards to 171 residents of seven mahallas (MFYs). However, their homes were already connected to the general natural gas network. Nevertheless, the documents indicated the distribution of liquefied gas. As a result, 220.3 million soums were stolen.
In the Nurabad district, responsible employees of "Nurabadtumangaz" embezzled 148.3 million soums. This money was obtained from the sale of liquefied gas, but it was not deposited into the bank.
Criminal cases have been initiated for both episodes under Articles 167 and 209 of the Criminal Code. The investigation is ongoing.
The uncovered violations are related to the current system of accounting and sale of liquefied gas. At the same time, Uzbekistan plans to reform this system. Instead of the previous support mechanism, low-income families will be paid compensations.
