The national football teams of Uzbekistan and Iran will play a friendly match in Tashkent. The game will take place as part of the extended FIFA international window, scheduled for September 21 to October 6, 2026. This information was confirmed by Mehdi Taj, President of the Iranian Football Federation.
According to Taj, the Iranian national team plans to play three matches during the upcoming international window. In addition to the match against Uzbekistan, a match against Russia has already been confirmed.
"We will have a FIFA window from September 21 to October 6. During this window, we will play three matches. Currently, the matches against Uzbekistan and Russia have been confirmed. All three matches will be held in three different countries," Taj stated.
He also added that during the next FIFA window, the Iranian national team will travel to Iraq to participate in a tournament.
Uzbekistan national team head coach Fabio Cannavaro previously mentioned that negotiations to host the match with Iran were in the final stages.
The FIFA international window from September 21 to October 6, 2026, will be the first extended three-week period in the new national team calendar. During this period, national teams will be able to play up to four matches.
The Iranian and Uzbek national teams also competed in the 2026 World Cup.
