The shortlist of nominees for the Booker Prize has been announced

The shortlist of contenders for the Booker Prize has been announced in London.

Laureates from previous years — Jamaican Marlon James and Scottish-American writer Douglas Stuart — have once again made the shortlist of candidates for the victory this time.

James joined the ranks of the new nominees this year with his novel "The Disappearers", while Stuart secured his place with the book "John of John".

Marlon James won the prize in 2015 for his novel "A Brief History of Seven Killings", and Douglas Stuart was awarded the Booker Prize in 2020 for his debut work "Shuggie Bain".

Among the contenders for the prize are also American writer and recipient of several literary awards Elizabeth Strout, as well as British authors — M. John Harrison, Luke Kennard, and Rebecca Perry.

Seven works from the longlist announced in July have been eliminated from the list.

According to the chair of the judges, Mary Beard, choosing the final six contenders for the Booker Prize was, "to put it mildly, not easy."

"Contemporary English-language fiction is rich in both established and new talents," she said.

The winner of the Booker Prize will be announced on November 9. As a reminder, last year the author of the best novel was awarded 50,000 pounds sterling.
