The President of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, announced at a meeting in Nukus that the Chairman of the Jokargy Kenes of Karakalpakstan, Amanbay Orynbayev, has been awarded the special rank of Major General.

The head of state emphasized his many years of effective service in the internal affairs system, his contribution to the comprehensive development of Karakalpakstan, ensuring the well-being, security, and peaceful life of its residents, as well as preserving and strengthening kindness, harmony, and cohesion in society.

Amanbay Orynbayev was elected Chairman of the Jokargy Kenes in late August 2022, succeeding Murat Kamalov.

Prior to that, Amanbay Orynbayev headed the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Karakalpakstan for less than five months, and then briefly served as the First Deputy Chairman of the Council of Ministers of the republic.

Earlier, he spent just over three months heading the Probation Service of the Public Safety Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Uzbekistan. He also worked as the First Deputy Chief of the Public Order Protection Service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Uzbekistan and was the head of the Nukus City Department of Internal Affairs.

In early July 2022, mass demonstrations took place in Karakalpakstan, resulting in casualties among both the population and security forces during their dispersal.

It was reported that one of the reasons for the unrest was the neglect of the socio-economic problems of the population.
