The President pardoned more than 850 people on Uzbekistan's Independence Day.
The President of Uzbekistan pardoned 852 people, including seven foreign citizens, 375 young people, 49 women, and 37 men over 60. The decree was signed on the eve of Independence Day. Since 2017, 31 pardons have been signed, affecting 10,567 people.
To mark the 35th anniversary of Uzbekistan's independence, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev signed a decree pardoning 852 convicts who have repented of their actions and embarked on a path to reform. This was reported by the Uzbekistan 24 television channel.
Of those pardoned, 604 were fully released from their sentences. Another 115 were granted parole. Fifty-two convicts had their sentences commuted to more lenient ones. Additionally, 81 people had their prison terms reduced.
Among those pardoned were seven foreign citizens and 63 individuals involved in banned organizations. The list also included 375 young people, 49 women, and 37 men over 60.
Since 2017, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev has issued 31 pardon decrees, resulting in the release of 10,567 individuals.
Last year, on Independence Day, the president pardoned 523 convicts, and on Constitution Day, he signed a decree pardoning 615 individuals. This year, ahead of the Navruz and Ramadan holidays, 392 individuals were pardoned.
