The past summer in Uzbekistan turned out to be one of the hottest

August 2026 in Uzbekistan, like all Augusts over the past decade, was warmer than the climatic norm, according to a review by Uzhydromet.

The average monthly air temperature exceeded long-term values by 1.9–3 degrees, and in the Bukhara region, and in places in the Navoiy, Kashkadarya, and Surkhandarya regions — by 3.1–3.6 degrees.

"Across most of the country's territory, such a hot August was observed for the first time in the entire history of meteorological observations in Uzbekistan," the review notes.

In most districts of the Kashkadarya and Surkhandarya regions, the past month entered the top three warmest Augusts in all years of observations.

Although the month was very hot on average, the maximum air temperature almost everywhere did not reach record levels. On the hottest days, the air warmed up to +39…+41 degrees, in the north, south, and desert zone — to +42…+44, and in Termez — to +45.

The number of days with air temperatures of +40 degrees and above was 1–6 days, in the Bukhara, Navoiy, Kashkadarya, and Surkhandarya regions — 7–14 days, and in the Mubarek and Termez area — 18–21 days.

August also turned out to be exceptionally dry. In most regions, there was no rain at all, or the amount did not exceed 0.0–0.4 mm.

In some mountainous areas, 2–4 instances of rainfall were recorded, but even there, the total precipitation for the month did not exceed 1–4 mm. Only at individual mountain stations in the Tashkent and Fergana regions did the figure reach 6–12 mm for the month, which is below the norm.

The past summer in Uzbekistan took second place in the ranking of the hottest summer seasons, and in some regions, it became the warmest in the entire history of observations. The average seasonal air temperature exceeded the norm by 1.2–2.6 degrees.

The highest maximum air temperature values for the entire season were recorded in July. Across most of Uzbekistan, the heat peaked in the middle of the month. During these days, the air warmed up to +43…+45 degrees, and in the south and desert zone — to +46…+50. New temperature records were set in a number of regions.

"Thus, the temperature regime of the summer of 2026 continued the trend toward the warming of summer seasons in Uzbekistan," the review says.

In most regions, the total precipitation for the summer of 2026 was below the norm. June made the main contribution to the total amount of precipitation for the summer season, when rain fell quite frequently.
