Parents of little Leon from Tashkent announced the completion of the fundraising campaign for Zolgensma

The parents of little Leon from Tashkent announced the closure of the fundraising campaign for the treatment of their son, who was diagnosed with spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) type 1. Thanks to donations from caring people, the necessary amount was raised in three months.

"We have raised the required amount. We did it. Together with you," the boy's mother, Anastasiya, wrote in a post dedicated to the end of the fundraising campaign.

According to her, during the three months of the campaign, strangers became like family, and every donation and every share of information about Leon brought them closer to their goal.

"Today, the tears are from relief. From the fact that we succeeded. From the thought of how many people found the desire and opportunity to support us," Anastasiya shared.

She thanked everyone who transferred money, shared information about the family, and helped draw attention to Leon's story. Special words of gratitude were expressed to the foundations "Star in the Palm" ("Zvezda na ladoshke"), "Zakat", and the Dutch foundation Stichting SMA & DMD Kids, as well as the CEO of the "Star in the Palm" foundation, Ekaterina Vorontsova, and singer Keti Topuria.

In addition, the family thanked an anonymous donor whose large transfer covered the remaining amount and closed the fundraising campaign for Leon's treatment.

"We respect your wish to remain anonymous. But it is impossible to remain silent about our gratitude. Thank you for your trust and for such generous help to Leon," Anastasiya wrote.

Earlier, Leon's parents announced a campaign to raise about two million dollars for the drug Zolgensma, which is used for gene therapy of SMA. According to the family, the treatment needs to be administered before the boy turns six months old.

The family also stated in advance that if Leon is unable to receive Zolgensma, the collected funds will be directed to the treatment of another child with SMA.

Concluding her appeal, the boy's mother once again thanked everyone who stayed by the family's side throughout the three months.

"Leon, so many hearts responded for your sake. […] The required amount has been raised. The fundraising for Leon is closed. How grateful we are to you. To each and every one," she wrote.
