The oldest male concentration camp survivor has passed away in Italy

The oldest man in Italy, Vitantonio Lovallo, has died at the age of 112.

Lovallo lived in the small village of Sarnelli, belonging to the commune of Avigliano in the Basilicata region. On March 25, he had celebrated his 112th birthday. At that time, the commune administration presented him with a commemorative plaque as a token of gratitude for his many years of hard work and service to the village community.

Vitantonio Lovallo was born in 1914. In his youth, he worked as a shepherd. During World War II, he was drafted into military service and was captured in Greece in 1943. He was then sent to one of the concentration camps in Germany, where he was held until May 8, 1945.

After the war ended, Lovallo returned to Basilicata.

Lovallo's funeral took place on September 17. He was bid farewell on his final journey by his two daughters and a son.
