The number of people missing after a catamaran capsized off the coast of Northern Cyprus has reached 20.

A passenger catamaran owned by Filo Denizcilik capsized in coastal waters near the city of Girne. Eight people died in the incident, 239 were rescued, and the fate of 20 remains unknown. This information was confirmed by Unal Ustel, Prime Minister of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.

According to preliminary reports, the vessel was approximately 2-2.5 kilometers from shore when water began entering through its bow. The captain attempted to turn the catamaran around and return to shore, but these efforts were unsuccessful.

The search and rescue operation in the area continues uninterrupted, with the active participation of Turkey. Coast guard units, numerous vessels, and a helicopter are involved in the operation. The rescued passengers are being brought to shore, where they are being treated by medical teams. All medical facilities and ambulance services in the Girne region have been put on high alert to receive the injured.
