The 2026 Nobel Prize in Literature was awarded to Canadian writer Anne Carson "for her bold and innovative work that enlivens and freely enriches classical literary traditions with modern forms."

The 2026 Nobel Prize in Literature has been awarded to the Canadian writer Anne Carson. According to the Nobel Committee's website, Anne Carson was found worthy of this recognition "for her bold and innovative work that enriches classical literary traditions with contemporary forms in a vivid and free manner."
Carson is not only a writer, but also a poet, a teacher of classical languages and literature, as well as a translator of the works of Simonides, Sappho, Aeschylus, Sophocles, Euripides, and Catullus. She is the author of more than 18 books.
The names of other nominees are not disclosed — information regarding nominations and the selection process is only published 50 years after the award is presented.
The year 2026 marks the 125th anniversary of the establishment of the Nobel Prize. In the period from 1901 to 2025, the prizes were awarded 633 times to 1,026 individuals and organizations. In connection with the jubilee year, the Nobel Foundation increased the prize money by 1 million, bringing it to 12 million kronor (approximately 1.2 million dollars).
In 2025, the Nobel Prize in Literature was awarded to the Hungarian writer László Krasznahorkai "for his compelling work that reaffirms the power of art in the face of apocalyptic dread."
On October 9, the Nobel Peace Prize laureates will be announced. The Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel, established by the Bank of Sweden since 1969, will be awarded on October 12.
