The median salary in Uzbekistan is 4.1 million UZS. How realistic is this?
The National Statistics Committee has for the first time published experimental calculations of the median salary in Uzbekistan for January–August 2026. The figure stood at 4.1 million UZS. In Tashkent, it reached 6.7 million UZS, while in the Syrdarya region it turned out to be the lowest — 2.9 million UZS.
The median salary shows how much a hypothetical worker located in the middle of the income distribution earns: half of the workers earn less than this amount, and the other half earn more.
Unlike the average salary, the median is less dependent on the incomes of a small group of highly paid specialists. Therefore, it allows for a more accurate understanding of the salary typical for a worker in the middle of the distribution. At the same time, the median does not mean that half of the workers receive this exact amount.
According to the National Statistics Committee, these figures were calculated in an experimental mode using international experience. The sample for January–August 2026 did not include agricultural enterprises and small businesses. Therefore, the indicator does not yet reflect the earnings of all workers in the country.
By region, the highest median salary was recorded in Tashkent — 6.7 million UZS. At the other end of the spectrum is the Syrdarya region — 2.9 million UZS.
By type of economic activity, the financial sector stands out in particular. In banking, insurance, leasing, lending, and intermediary services, the median salary was 11.3 million UZS. In the information and communication sector, the figure reached 8.7 million UZS, in transportation and storage — 8.3 million, in industry — 5.8 million, and in trade — 4.6 million UZS.
Lower values were observed in arts, entertainment, and recreation — 3.6 million UZS, as well as in education and healthcare — 3.2 million UZS.
The lowest median salary among the listed industries was recorded in accommodation and food services — 2.8 million UZS.
