The longest ceasefire in the war. Olešky residents evacuated from the "kill-zone"
The governments of Ukraine and Russia have completed the evacuation of people from the frontline city of Olešky. In recent months, the humanitarian situation had further deteriorated in this settlement of the Kherson region, occupied by the Armed Forces of the RF. Hundreds of people, cut off from electricity, food, and medicine supplies, were unable to leave this city. Mediated by US First Lady Melania Trump, the warring parties agreed to introduce a ceasefire regime around Olešky from October 27 to November 1 for the evacuation of civilians. During these days, humanitarian missions from both countries visited the city; the Ukrainian delegation was led by Ombudsman Dmytro Lubinets, and the Russian delegation by Yana Lantratova, the Human Rights Commissioner in the RF. As part of the ceasefire, 750 people were evacuated from the city on October 31. Some of them voluntarily headed to the part of Ukraine remaining under Kyiv's control, while another part was taken to Crimea, which was annexed by Russia.
