List of free medicines and examinations to be expanded in Uzbekistan

The guaranteed package of medical assistance will be expanded in Uzbekistan: starting from 2027, the number of free medicines will be increased to 73, and the types of examinations up to 36. President Shavkat Mirziyoyev announced this during a meeting with healthcare and pharmaceutical sector workers at the "Koksaroy" residence on October 27.

Currently, polyclinics provide 69 types of medicines free of charge. Of these, 28 items are provided under the reimbursement program, and by 2027 their number should reach 69. In February 2025, a representative of the Ministry of Health stated that the guaranteed volume for polyclinics at the place of residence includes 28 diagnostic examinations and 22 laboratory tests.

According to the head of state, work on the early detection of stomach, colon, prostate, and lung cancer will begin in Samarkand and will be launched in all regions starting from 2028. For this purpose, 700 billion soums will be allocated annually.

Programs for the early detection of diabetes, tuberculosis, cardiovascular diseases, tumors in women, and pediatric oncohematological diseases will also be continued.

The President also provided information on the results of the program for the early detection and treatment of heart attacks and strokes, which is being implemented in Andijan, Fergana, Namangan, Samarkand, and Tashkent. According to the figures he cited, within five months, the mortality rate at the early stages of these diseases decreased by 15 percent.

During the "golden hour" at the onset of the disease, 855 people were saved from premature death and disability complications. Next year, 280 billion soums will be allocated to the program, covering all districts and cities.

It should cover all districts and cities of the country. The package of medical assistance guaranteed by the state will also be expanded.

While 69 types of free medicines are currently provided to outpatients within the framework of this package, their number will be brought to 73 next year. The number of medical examinations in the package will reach 36.

At the meeting, the president paid special attention to reforming primary healthcare.

"I always say, the better primary care works, the healthier our people will be," said Shavkat Mirziyoyev.

According to him, a new model for organizing primary health care was tested in 28 districts of Uzbekistan. In these districts, 7 million residents were personally assigned to family doctors. The obligations of patients and medical staff were consolidated in mutual agreements.

Additionally, new laboratories were opened, training for doctors and nurses was launched, and patient routing — the procedure for undergoing examinations and receiving medical care — was developed.

According to the president's assessment, these changes made it possible to increase public trust in polyclinics.

Starting from 2027, it is planned to introduce the new model in another 100 districts.

The head of state announced that over the past ten years, new polyclinics and hospitals designed to serve 10 million people were commissioned in Uzbekistan. 58 thousand new hospital beds were created.

According to the provided data, due to the expansion of the network of modern medical institutions and the development of the private sector, the volume of medical services provided increased threefold.

Today, more than 100 complex medical procedures that were previously performed abroad are carried out in the country. Among them are surgeries for congenital heart defects, organ transplantation, robotic surgeries, and complex neurosurgical procedures.

"To see the happiness of their family, to work honestly and achieve their dreams, to spend their life meaningfully, a person, above all, needs health. Therefore, we have designated the preservation of human health as one of the most important directions of our reforms," the president emphasized.
