“The Iranian regime will collapse soon” — Netanyahu

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on September 3 expressed confidence that the Iranian government will soon be overthrown. At a time when the US has resumed attacks, he said the Iranian regime is weaker than ever.

“This regime is now weaker than ever. The government is fighting for its survival,” Netanyahu said at an event with Israeli military leaders.

He continued, adding that the Iranian threat would be eliminated:

“I believe we can definitively eliminate this threat, that is, overthrow this regime. This is still the main task ahead of us, but it is very close. It is not impossible to achieve, and we can do it.”

For several decades, Netanyahu has described Iran's cleric-led state as an existential threat. In late February, he launched an attack against Iran together with the US. However, President Donald Trump declared a ceasefire in April.

In recent days, the US has intensified economic pressure and resumed strikes this week. In response, Iran opened fire on American allies in the Persian Gulf, Jordan, and Iraq's autonomous Kurdistan region. However, it did other not attack Israel.

“If they are not attacking us, it is not a coincidence. They are attacking everyone, but not us. They have learned our power, the strength of our weapons and our determination,” Netanyahu said.

The Prime Minister's statements come ahead of the general elections to be held in Israel on October 27. Some polls show him lagging behind. Opposition leaders, meanwhile, accuse him of failing on the Iran issue.

Just yesterday, Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz said that in the event of an Iranian attack, his country is ready to respond with great force. He stated that Israeli forces are expecting a potential attack by Iran during the major Jewish holidays starting in mid-September, and the country is ready for it.
