Trump calls Iran "officially a failed state"

US President Donald Trump on Monday described Iran as "officially a failed state" and said the country's leaders were acting on false pretenses, Al Arabiya reported.

As tensions between the two countries escalated, Trump wrote on the Truth Social platform: "Iran is officially a failed state. It is bankrupt!"

Trump continued, saying that Iran no longer has a navy or air force, and its currency is in dire straits. "They are not paying their military or their police. Inflation is at 300 percent. The leadership is in complete disarray and incapable of running the country properly. All they have is fake news from the United States, a willingness to kill their own protesters, and good old-fashioned deception," the US president said.

A US official told Al Arabiya that on August 30, US forces struck two Iranian missile installations on Larak Island. The reason for this was that Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps was preparing to launch naval mine-throwing missiles into the Strait of Hormuz.

The last known US strikes on Iran took place in late July. The war has been at a stalemate in recent weeks. Iranian media reported that Iran responded to the attack on Larak Island by striking American bases in Jordan.

Trump said in an interview with Fox News on August 31 that the US would respond to Iran's overnight attack on American forces in Jordan. "We will strike them hard. There will be a response," Trump was quoted as saying by Fox News.

Trump also told the publication that the current US sanctions imposed against the Iranian regime are having a very strong impact.
