It was reported that the Uzbek national team triumphed at the Chess Olympiad in Samarkand.
President Shavkat Mirziyoyev sent congratulations to the members of the Uzbekistan national chess team.
"You are the heroes of New Uzbekistan, the golden generation that created a new history in the world of chess. Our entire nation is infinitely proud of you. You defeated the reigning Olympiad champion – the team of India. You achieved a historic victory over the Chinese team, which has an ancient chess school and many grandmasters. You also prevailed over the US team, which ranks first in the world and is a six-time Olympiad champion.
Nodirbek Abdusattorov, without knowing what defeat is throughout all the games, proved to be a true team leader and became the gold medalist on the first board.
I would like to emphasize that Nodirbek Yoqubboyev showed true will and fortitude in uncompromising matches against representatives of Turkey, India, China, and the USA, securing decisive victories for our team.
In particular, Yoqubboyev's match against Nihal Sarin of India was a truly dramatic battle. Seeing the tactical moves used with extreme ingenuity by the representative of New Uzbekistan in the most difficult situation, chess fans around the world were left in awe.
Another of our brave sons, Javohir Sindorov, played like a champion and made a great contribution to the overall victory.
The fact that our son Muhiddin Madaminov, who participated in such a major international competition for the first time, delivered unexpected blows to his strong opponents and did not suffer a single defeat deserves high praise.
It will also remain in the memory of fans that Shamsiddin Vohidov did not lose his composure in uncompromising games against representatives of India, Turkey, and Hungary, and managed to secure important points," the President noted.
It was noted that the Uzbekistan Chess Federation being recognized by FIDE as the winner in the "Best Federation" category in 2026, the experienced coach and grandmaster Rustam Kasimdzhanov being elected as FIDE Honorary Vice President, and Khulkar Tokhirjonova being elected as FIDE Regional President for Central Asian countries are accepted as further evidence of Uzbekistan's growing prestige as a chess country. At the Samarkand Olympiad, our para-chess players also showed great courage and won the bronze medal for the first time in the history of such games.
