The Uzbekistan national team has won the 46th World Chess Olympiad in Samarkand

The Uzbekistan national team won the gold medals of the 46th World Chess Olympiad, which took place in Samarkand. This is the second championship in history for the national team.

The Uzbeks secured first place even before the end of the final round match against Ukraine, after India drew 2-2 with the Hungarian team. Before the decisive round, the Uzbekistan national team was one point ahead of the Indian team, holding 18 points.

The national team started the tournament with a streak of seven consecutive victories, prevailing in key matches against India with a score of 2.5-1.5 and China with a score of 3-1. After a defeat to Germany in the eighth round, the Uzbeks beat the tournament's top seed, the US team, and in the tenth round defeated Armenia with a score of 3.5-0.5.

The winning team included Javokhir Sindarov, Nodirbek Abdusattorov, Nodirbek Yakubboev, Shamsiddin Vokhidov, and Mukhiddin Madaminov, under the leadership of captain Rustam Kasimdzhanov. Four of them had already won at the 2022 Olympiad in Chennai. Thus, Uzbekistan has won medals at three consecutive World Chess Olympiads: gold in 2022, bronze in 2024, and gold at the home tournament in Samarkand in 2026.
