Global Network led by Ziroat Mirziyoyeva unites world's First Ladies for children's health
As part of the World Summit "Investing in Child Wellbeing: The Path to Sustainable and Equitable Progress for Future Generations" held in Samarkand, Carlos Rodriguez-Galindo, Vice President of the US St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and Director of St. Jude Global, announced the establishment of a Global Network aimed at supporting children suffering from severe and life-threatening illnesses.
First Lady of the Republic of Uzbekistan and Chairperson of the Board of Trustees of the "Zamin" International Public Foundation, Ziroat Mirziyoyeva, will lead this network for a two-year term.
International network uniting First Ladies
The main aspect of the Global Network is that it brings together First Ladies and spouses of heads of state from various countries on a single platform dedicated to children's health issues.
Within the framework of the platform, it is planned to expand international cooperation between countries, exchange experience and information, and promote practical initiatives to support children suffering from severe illnesses.
However, the task of the Global Network is not limited to sectoral cooperation alone. This format involving First Ladies allows for high-level international attention to be drawn to issues related to pediatric oncology and other severe diseases.
In this sense, the Global Network also brings issues of creating the necessary conditions for children to receive quality medical care, support, growth, and development onto the agenda of international cooperation.
Ziroat Mirziyoyeva's chairmanship — recognition of achieved results
This decision became an international recognition of the achievements in the field of pediatric oncology in Uzbekistan. At its core lie systemic reforms implemented in the sector under the leadership of President Shavkat Mirziyoyeva — radical changes in developing specialized medical care, expanding modern diagnostic and treatment capabilities, and providing children with essential medicines.
Furthermore, the active and leading role of Ziroat Mirziyoyeva in supporting children with cancer, ensuring their access to quality medical care, and creating conditions for the growth and development of every child, regardless of their life situation, was specifically noted.
The ceremony of the First Lady assuming the chairmanship was held within the framework of the International Congress on Pediatric Oncology.
What will be the next step of the Global Network?
The activities of the Global Network will not be limited to the World Summit in Samarkand. First Ladies of other countries are also invited to join it and contribute to the development of the network through practical actions.
The next meeting of the Global Network is planned to be held in May 2027 in Geneva on the sidelines of the World Health Assembly, or in September 2027 in New York on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly.
The initial two years under the leadership of Ziroat Mirziyoyeva will be a crucial period in terms of establishing the Global Network, attracting new countries to it, and building practical cooperation among them.
Thus, a new platform for international cooperation, which unites the world's First Ladies to support children suffering from severe and life-threatening illnesses, is beginning its work. The Uzbekistan First Lady leading it creates new opportunities for promoting the experience accumulated and results achieved in the field of pediatric oncology in the country on an international level.
