The first permanent Center for Contemporary Art will open in Tashkent.

On September 6, Tashkent will host the grand opening of CCA Tashkent, the first permanent contemporary art center in Uzbekistan. It will be housed in a restored historic building, which previously served as a diesel station and tram depot, built in 1912.

The building on Amir Temur Street was designed by architect Wilhelm Heinzelmann. In 2019, the facility was transferred to the Foundation for the Development of Culture and Arts of Uzbekistan, and its reconstruction was carried out by the French architectural firm Studio KO. During the renovation, the architects sought to preserve the building's industrial appearance.

The center will function as a multidisciplinary platform, hosting exhibitions, performances, film screenings, concerts, as well as events dedicated to design and literature. A specialized library, restaurant, and concept store will also be located on the premises. The center will be open to visitors six days a week.

CCA Tashkent's debut exhibition will be "Hikmah," exploring themes of wisdom, spirituality, and material transformation. The exhibition will run from September 6, 2026, to January 31, 2027, and admission will be free.

It was previously reported that the opening of the renovated Center for Contemporary Art was originally scheduled for March, but was postponed due to events in the Persian Gulf region.
