The 2028 UEFA Super Cup match will be held at the "Astana Arena" stadium in the capital of Kazakhstan, Astana. This decision was made by the Executive Committee of the Union of European Football Associations at a meeting held on September 15 in the city of Thessaloniki.
Thus, Kazakhstan will host the UEFA Super Cup match for the first time. In this match, the winners of the Champions League and the Europa League will compete against each other.
"Astana Arena" must resolve the pitch surface issue to host this prestigious match: the artificial turf will be replaced with natural grass.
The stadium had also bid to host the 2019 UEFA Super Cup. The UEFA bid evaluation report noted that the arena had an artificial surface, and the Kazakh side was considering the possibility of replacing it with a natural surface. Ultimately, the 2019 match took place in Istanbul, Turkey.
"Astana Arena" was commissioned in 2009 and is designed for approximately 30,000 spectators. The national team of Kazakhstan and the capital's club "Astana" play their home matches at this stadium. In 2025, a large-scale reconstruction was completed here, during which, among other things, engineering systems were updated and the artificial turf of the pitch was replaced.
The current holder of the UEFA Super Cup is the French club PSG. In the match for the cup, the Parisians defeated the English team "Aston Villa" (2:1). The match took place on August 12 in Salzburg, Austria. In 2027, the UEFA Super Cup match will be held at the "Johan Cruyff Arena" in Amsterdam.
