Tennis player Rakhimova advances to semifinals of WTA 500 tournament in Tokyo

Uzbekistan's Kamilla Rakhimova has reached the semifinals of the prestigious WTA 500 tennis tournament in Tokyo. In a hard-fought quarterfinal, she defeated Maya Joint of Australia in three sets. This is the biggest semifinal of the Uzbek tennis player's career.

The match lasted 2 hours and 22 minutes, ending in a victory for Rakhimova with a score of 7:5, 5:7, 6:1. Her opponent is ranked 94th in the world, while Kamilla herself holds the 66th position.

In the semifinals, the Uzbek athlete will play against Leylah Fernandez of Canada.

Notably, Rakhimova entered the main draw of the tournament as a lucky loser — a player who lost in qualification but received a chance to compete following the withdrawal of another participant. Despite this, she managed to reach the final four.

Rakhimova officially joined the national team of Uzbekistan in December 2025. Prior to that, she represented Russia. The tennis player now represents Uzbekistan in international competitions.
