Temperatures in Kazakhstan break 111-year record

Kazakhstan broke 111-year records for temperature in July. According to Tengrinews, the temperature in Turkestan reached 47.6 degrees, while in Shymkent the record set 111 years ago was surpassed.

In July, the air temperature in most regions of the country was 1-4 degrees above the climatic norm. In some places, precipitation fell 1.3-4 times more than usual. In particular, in the Jetisay district of the Turkestan region, the amount of precipitation in a month exceeded the climatic norm by 15 times.

**Long-term temperature records have been broken**

Record-breaking heat was recorded not only in the south of Kazakhstan, but also in the north, east and central regions. Almaty experienced its hottest period from July 16 to 20, breaking several records in a row:

* On July 16, the temperature reached 38 degrees Celsius, surpassing the record of 37 degrees Celsius set in 2015.

* On July 17, the temperature rose to 39.2 degrees Celsius, breaking the record of 37.4 degrees Celsius set in 1945.

* On July 18, the temperature reached 40 degrees Celsius, surpassing the record of 39.7 degrees Celsius set in 1997.

* On July 20, the temperature reached 41.5 degrees Celsius, surpassing the record of 39.5 degrees Celsius set in 2007.

Thus, in just a few days, Almaty broke four temperature records.

**Shymkent sets 111-year temperature record**

A higher temperature than Almaty was observed in Shymkent. On July 16-20, the air here warmed up to 45.2 degrees. For comparison, in the same period in 1915, the temperature was 41.1 and 40.1 degrees. On July 19 and 20, 2019, 40.2 and 40.7 degrees were recorded, respectively. These indicators indicate that Shymkent has renewed the records set 111 years ago.

Extreme heat was also observed in other regions of the country:

* On July 14, the air temperature in Astana rose to 38.6 degrees. This was higher than the record of 35.3 degrees recorded in 1992.

* In Ust-Kamenogorsk, the temperature reached 34.4 degrees Celsius on July 2, breaking the record of 33.9 degrees Celsius set in 1969. On July 16, the temperature reached 39.7 degrees Celsius, again surpassing the record of 37.2 degrees Celsius set in 1969.

**Record heat was also observed in Kyzylorda and Turkestan**

On July 17, the temperature in Kyzylorda reached 45.2 degrees Celsius. As a result, the record of 43.6 degrees Celsius set in 2015 was broken. On July 18, the temperature in Turkestan reached 47.6 degrees Celsius. This is 3.9 degrees higher than the record of 43.7 degrees Celsius set in 2019.
