The 2026 International Olympiad in Informatics (IOI) has kicked off in Tashkent. Schoolchildren from all over the world will compete to become the best young programmers, and Telegram has prepared special digital collectible "Algorithm Cups" for the winners.

IOI is recognized as one of the key international programming competitions for schoolchildren. Many Olympiad participants go on to become experts at leading tech companies. Among the former winners are members of the Telegram team.

Telegram founder Pavel Durov previously emphasized the importance of such competitions for identifying talented professionals. This year, Telegram has decided to support IOI participants and will award digital collectible "Algorithm Cups" to 235 of the best schoolchildren. The total prize pool is estimated at $117,000.

The Olympiad's location has symbolic significance: Uzbekistan is the birthplace of Al-Khwarizmi, the great scientist whose name inspired the word "algorithm."

The Olympiad has already begun, and an intense battle of ideas, logic, and code lies ahead. The winner will be the one with the most effective algorithm.

The tournament will run until August 16. Representatives from 97 countries, representing 386 gifted schoolchildren, have confirmed their participation.
