Telegram blocked more than 220,000 communities worldwide in two days.

Over the weekend, Telegram blocked over 220,000 communities worldwide.
Over two days, August 29 and 30, Telegram restricted access to over 221,000 groups and channels worldwide. Since the beginning of 2026, the total number of blocked communities on the messenger has exceeded 24 million.
According to official Telegram data, over 109,000 groups and channels were blocked on August 29. The following day, August 30, the messenger restricted access to approximately 112,000 more communities.
This brings the total number of blocked communities since the beginning of 2026 to over 24 million. This includes groups and channels that were removed or restricted by the platform administration in accordance with its moderation policy.
Official Telegram statistics, on which the data for August 29 and 30 is based, do not disclose the specific reasons for blocking each community in their daily reports.
As a reminder, more than 50 websites promoting gambling and risk-based games were previously blocked in Uzbekistan. This decision was made following complaints from the Committee for the Development of Competition and Consumer Protection regarding 76 online resources containing such advertising.
