Tashkent to Update Street and Landmark Views on Google Maps
The Tashkent Khokimiyat has launched a large-scale update of panoramic imagery of the capital on the Google Street View service.
As part of the project, plans are in place to take new photographs of city streets and tourist sites to showcase them to an international audience, the Tashkent Khokimiyat press service reported.
The update will give Google Maps users the opportunity to virtually explore the capital's streets and landmarks, get acquainted with the urban environment, and plan travel routes in advance.
Panoramic images allow users to take virtual walks around the city without physically being in Tashkent.
The Khokimiyat notes that the digital image of the city should also reflect the changes taking place within it.
The updated panoramas are designed to demonstrate the modern look of the capital and make information about tourist sites more accessible to potential visitors.
The international audience of Google Maps gives the project special significance. According to data provided by the Khokimiyat, more than 2 billion people use the service monthly.
Thus, the updated images could serve as an additional way to present Tashkent's tourism potential abroad.
For foreign tourists, a virtual introduction to the city can be one of the stages of trip preparation: users will be able to inspect places of interest in advance and evaluate the location of sites.
The Khokimiyat emphasizes that the goal of the initiative is to present modern Tashkent and its tourism opportunities to an international audience.
However, the announcement does not specify the completion date for the panorama update or the schedule for the photo shoots.
