Tashkent Traffic Safety Department Headed by New Temporary Chief

Lieutenant Colonel Ilkhom Idirov has been appointed as the new acting head of the Traffic Safety Department of the Tashkent Main Department of Internal Affairs. There was no official announcement of the appointment, but his name appears in the resolution of the capital's Kengash of People's Deputies dated September 25 — in the clauses where the department is tasked with executing specific instructions.

Previously, Idirov headed the Traffic Safety Department of the Kashkadarya region, and in July 2025, he was appointed head of the Traffic Safety Department of the Sirdaryo Region Internal Affairs Department.

The Kengash resolution itself is dedicated to the results of work on implementing the "Xavfsiz va ravon yo'l" (Safe and Smooth Road) nationwide program in the first half of 2026 and measures to ensure road safety.

The document also defines the main tasks of the capital's Traffic Safety Department. The department has been instructed to accelerate the installation and replacement of road signs, road marking application, and the construction and reconstruction of traffic light facilities. In addition, it is planned to continue the digitalization of traffic management, including the installation of surveillance cameras at city entrances and intersections.

Another focus area is the prevention of traffic accidents. The Traffic Safety Department, together with the Department of Preschool and School Education, must organize classes in schools and kindergartens to teach traffic rules. Furthermore, the department has been instructed to strengthen preventive work and, within a week, develop a targeted action plan to reduce mortality in the districts of the capital.

The resolution separately mentions the traffic situation in the Mirzo-Ulugbek district. The Traffic Safety Department, together with the khokimiyats (administrations), must consider proposals for organizing traffic on Khirmontepa, Mirzo-Ulugbek, and Sairam streets.

Earlier, it became known that the former Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Bekmurod Abdullaev, who was previously involved in a criminal case concerning the embezzlement of budget funds, was appointed head of the Department for Coordination of Internal Affairs Bodies of the Chilanzar district of Tashkent.
