Sugar by quota, "Doc-1 Max" compensations, salary growth and cinema reform — news of the week

105 children were poisoned in Farg'ona kindergartens — the court delivered a verdict to those responsible for food supplies. Families affected by "Doc-1 Max" will finally receive compensations in full. Why, despite the increase in average salary to 7.3 million sums, half of the workers still earn less than 4.2 million? Uzbekistan is preparing to limit sugar imports, and plans to protect buyers from fake discounts. Uzbek cinema production is planned to be transferred to the private sector. New agreements between Uzbekistan and Turkey. Tragic collision of high-speed trains in Spain.

Salaries in Uzbekistan are growing, but the gap remains impressive

The average salary in Uzbekistan reached 7.3 million sums, increasing by 18% over the year. But behind these figures lies a noticeable income inequality.

In Tashkent, average earnings exceed 12.3 million sums, while in Qashqadaryo region they do not even reach 5 million. In the banking and insurance sectors, they pay almost 19.7 million sums, and in healthcare — about 4.5 million. The income distribution is even more telling: half of the workers receive less than 4.2 million sums. As a result, the average salary looks increasingly impressive on paper, but the real picture is much more heterogeneous: high incomes in certain sectors and regions noticeably affect the general statistics, behind which it is easy to miss the situation of the majority of workers.

Discounts under control: real benefits will be checked via QR code

The Competition Committee proposes to give buyers the opportunity to check price history and the real size of discounts via a QR code.

The reason is serious: out of 116 examined promotions, 65 violations were identified — from unawarded prizes to incomplete conditions and discounts that applied only when paying in installments. About 250 million sums were recalculated for consumers. Now it is proposed to register promotion conditions in advance and digitize price history. If the system works, it will become harder for sellers to pass off marketing tricks as real benefits, and easier for buyers to distinguish real discounts from nice percentages on price tags.

Sugar by quota: producer support and market risks

Starting from 2027, Uzbekistan will limit sugar imports to a quota of 300 thousand tons per year, while simultaneously providing local plants with financial and tax incentives. The decision is secured by a closed government decree.
