Students reportedly being forced to install the "Safe Student" app

Reports have circulated that students at the Uzbekistan State University of World Languages and other higher education institutions who have not installed the "Safe Student" app are being barred from attending classes.

According to students, on November 3, they were detained at the university entrance and forced to install the application. Consequently, students who were late for class were marked absent ("nb"). During lessons, deans, deputy deans, and tutors entered the classrooms, made students who had not installed the app stand up, and reprimanded those who refused to install it.

Meanwhile, students at the University of World Economy and Diplomacy reported being forced to install a certain APK application for several weeks. It is also being reported that students at Tashkent State University of Law are being asked to install the "Safe Student" app.

The Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Innovation responded to the situation, stating that the issue has been taken under control. The leadership of the ministry issued instructions for an immediate review of the situation. A working group has currently begun an investigation.
