The UK Antarctic Heritage Trust, a British foundation, is looking for new staff to work at the Port Lockroy research station located on Goudier Island, Antarctica.
The main responsibilities of the selected staff include: servicing the world's southernmost post office (sorting nearly 80,000 letters and postcards a year), counting the penguin colony and conducting biological monitoring, as well as managing the local museum and souvenir shop. The job is intended for 5 months — from November to March. The monthly salary ranges from £1,449 to £2,096, or from 23 million to 33.3 million UZS.
Employees are required to be physically strong. They must carry 20-liter water containers, lift boxes weighing up to 15 kilograms, clear snow, and unload cargo from boats near slippery rocks. Potential candidates must reside in the UK and have a permit granting the official right to work there. People over 18 can take part in the selection process.
There is no running water at the station. Washing is done on ships that arrive once a week. If the weather is bad, it is possible to go up to 2 weeks without a shower. Communication is carried out via a limited satellite network.
Staff live in barracks with shared sleeping quarters. The temperature inside is 14-15 degrees, and outside it ranges from -5 to +5 degrees. Accommodation, food, and special warm winter clothing are provided by the employer.
