On September 4, Shavkat Mirziyoyev sent a letter to Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.

According to the presidential press service, in the letter, the head of state congratulated Giorgia Meloni on taking a worthy place in the pages of history as the longest-serving head of government in the position of President of the Council of Ministers of Italy to date.

He particularly recognized the efforts being made by Giorgia Meloni to firmly protect Italy's national interests in the current extremely complex and rapidly changing conditions, and to further strengthen the country's reputation and prestige in the European Union and the international arena.

He also wished her robust health, family happiness, and great success in her responsible state activities, and wished the friendly people of Italy peace, tranquility, prosperity, and continuous progress.

The President expressed gratitude for the Italian head of government's friendly attitude towards Uzbekistan and her constant attention aimed at consistently expanding multifaceted cooperation between the two countries.

Giorgia Meloni has been serving as the President of the Council of Ministers of Italy since October 22, 2022. She is the first female president in Italy's history. Meloni visited Uzbekistan on an official visit in May 2025. In January 2026, Shavkat Mirziyoyev held a meeting with Giorgia Meloni, who made a stopover in Tashkent, and reviewed issues of further strengthening the Uzbekistan-Italy strategic partnership relations.
