Shavkat Mirziyoyev congratulated Giorgia Meloni on becoming the longest-serving prime minister in Italy

Shavkat Mirziyoyev sent a letter to the President of the Council of Ministers of Italy, Giorgia Meloni, congratulating her on making history as the longest-serving head of government in this post so far, the president's press service reports.

In his letter, the leader of Uzbekistan particularly noted the efforts aimed at protecting Italy's national interests in the current complex international situation and increasing the country's prestige in the European Union and the world arena.

Shavkat Mirziyoyev expressed gratitude to the head of the Italian government for her friendly attitude towards Uzbekistan and the attention she pays to expanding bilateral cooperation.

"It was emphasized that Uzbekistan highly values the strategic partnership relations established with Italy. It was noted with satisfaction that today political dialogue, trade-economic and investment cooperation, cultural-humanitarian ties are becoming increasingly substantial, and bilateral relations are rising to a qualitatively new level," the report says.

The President last met with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni in January of this year when she made a stopover in Tashkent.

Meloni came to Uzbekistan on an official visit in June 2023.

For reference, Giorgia Meloni took the oath of office as the President of the Council of Ministers (Prime Minister) of Italy on October 22, 2022, becoming the first female politician to hold this position in the country's history.

Meloni has also been leading the center-right "Brothers of Italy" (Fratelli d’Italia) party since 2014. In the history of Italy, where governments change frequently, her Council of Ministers set a record as the longest continuously operating government.

She wrote on her Instagram page that this stability is not the merit of one person, but the result of a cohesive coalition with shared views.

"During these years, we worked to increase employment, reduce unemployment, support families and businesses, strengthen security, and restore Italy's reputation in the international arena. There are results, but we know very well that there is still a lot of work to be done," she noted.

Giorgia Meloni added that this stability exists thanks to the Italians who placed their trust in them in 2022, and that ahead of them lies continued work with composure and a confident look into the future.
