Senate approves transfer of sentenced persons between Uzbekistan and Pakistan
The Senate has supported the law on the ratification of the agreement with Pakistan on the transfer of sentenced persons for the further serving of their sentences in the state of which the sentenced person is a citizen. This concerns individuals sentenced to deprivation of liberty who are in places of detention on the territory of the other country.
The agreement was signed in Islamabad on February 5, 2026. It establishes the procedure for the transfer of sentenced persons who have a remaining portion of the court-imposed sentence to serve.
The document defines the conditions for transfer and the grounds for refusal, names the authorized bodies of the two countries, as well as the requirements for requests and the procedure for their consideration. In addition, it establishes the rules for the execution of the sentence after the transfer of the sentenced person, their transit, and the reimbursement of associated costs.
According to the senators, the agreement will help to better protect the rights and legitimate interests of citizens serving sentences abroad, as well as create conditions for their subsequent social rehabilitation.
Following the discussion, the senators approved the law on the ratification of the agreement.
Earlier, Uzbekistan and Pakistan, Kazakhstan and the UAE agreed to develop the CASA railway route through Central and South Asia with access to the seaports of Pakistan.
