Russia's anti-war Yabloko party expelled from State Duma elections
Yabloko was the only party that advocated a speedy end to the war with Ukraine. It was even initially included on the ballot.
The anti-war Yabloko party in Russia has been barred from the State Duma elections.
The Russian Supreme Court has barred the Yabloko party from participating in the State Duma elections. Judge Vyacheslav Kirillov upheld the claim of lawyers for the Rodina party. The Yabloko party said it would appeal the court's decision.
People gathered in support of Yabloko outside the courthouse chanted "Shame!"
Yabloko was the only party that advocated a speedy end to the war with Ukraine and was initially included on the ballot.
The Rodina party filed a lawsuit to have Yabloko disqualified. The plaintiffs cited copyright infringement and the use of "extremist" slogans in the party's propaganda.
At the court hearing, a representative of the Central Election Commission also cited Rosfinmonitoring's data on Yabloko's receipt of foreign funding. Yabloko itself explained this by the sale of foreign shares, which the party was legally required to divest before the election.
