Russia will suspend gas exports to Armenia due to "repairs"

Natural gas supplies from Russia to Armenia will be temporarily suspended. "Planned preventive and repair work" to be carried out in Russia was cited as the reason for this.

It is noted that the repair work will be conducted on the "North Caucasus – Transcaucasus" main gas pipeline. Gas transmission will be suspended from September 15 to September 25.

The company stated that during this period, gas will be delivered to consumers without restrictions and uninterruptedly. This will be achieved through domestic reserves and additional gas volumes temporarily supplied by Iran.

In 2025, Russia also suspended gas supplies to Armenia in the second half of September due to planned repairs. In early June 2026, shortly before the parliamentary elections held in Armenia, relations between Moscow and Yerevan deteriorated sharply. Russia accuses Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan of pursuing a pro-Western policy.

In response to Yerevan's attempts to draw closer to Europe, Russia began imposing restrictions on product imports from Armenia. Additionally, Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan are demanding that Armenia hold a referendum. They want Yerevan to clarify whether it will remain in the Eurasian Economic Union or continue on its path toward joining the European Union.

Meanwhile, on September 11, Pashinyan said that Armenia is looking for alternatives to Russian gas.

"Gas is not cheap in Armenia. On the way from the border to the consumer, the price of gas increases the most compared to other countries. 'Gazprom Armenia' is making a huge profit, which is also a reality we must acknowledge," he said.

According to an earlier statement by Dmitry Peskov, the press secretary of the Russian President, if Yerevan decides to withdraw from the Eurasian Economic Union, the preferential gas price for Armenia will be set based on market principles.

Earlier, it was reported that the import of dairy products from Armenia to Russia was restricted starting from July 27. The relevant decision was made following inspections conducted from July 14 to July 21. Violations were detected during the inspections.

"It was revealed that milk obtained from diseased livestock was used in the production of products supplied to Russia," the "Rosselkhoznadzor" report stated.
