Two people were killed after Russian drones hit a border crossing between Ukraine and Moldova, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said.
The Starokozache crossing, about 500km (310 miles) south of Kyiv, was shut following the overnight attack. Pictures from the site showed several cars burned out completely, with wreckage and debris scattered across the border post.
At the same time, four people, including a child, were killed in the southern Russian city of Novorossiysk in a Ukrainian drone strike, the regional governor said.
In recent months, both Russia and Ukraine have intensified long-range attacks, despite fresh diplomatic efforts to bring the war to an end.
In response to the Starokozache crossing attack, Zelensky again urged international backing, saying "the aggression must be stopped here and now before it spreads any further".
Odesa regional governor Oleg Kiper said the border connection between Ukraine and Moldova was closed after the attack killed two people and wounded three others.
Moldova's foreign ministry said a Moldovan driver was also injured.
Moldova has increasingly been drawn into the conflict, with Prime Minister Vasile Tofan saying 17 drones struck Moldovan territory in August alone - more than in the whole of last year.
"Those who ignore or downplay these threats - and refuse to name the aggressor - are denying reality," he wrote on social media.
"Russia started this war. Russia alone bears responsibility."

Russia's defence ministry said its forces had shot down 596 Ukrainian drones overnight.
Novorossiysk, in the south of the country on the Black Sea coast, was hit hardest in what governor Veniamin Kondratiev called a "massive overnight enemy drone attack".
Along with the four deaths, 29 people were injured, and damage was reported to apartment buildings, a church and a preschool.
The strikes came a day after Russian President Vladimir Putin spoke by phone with US President Donald Trump about efforts to end the conflict.
The Trump administration has been pushing for direct talks between Russia and Ukraine, with Kyiv saying they could happen this month. The Kremlin, however, has said it is too soon to discuss a date or venue.
The call followed talks in Moscow between US envoys Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff and Putin, before the pair went to Kyiv for meetings with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
