Rosatom has commented on allegations of safety violations during the construction of a nuclear power plant in Egypt.

Rosatom State Corporation responded to accusations of non-compliance with safety standards, construction quality issues, and "willful negligence" during the construction of the El Dabaa Nuclear Power Plant in Egypt, previously reported by Politico. The comment was provided to Daryo.
Rosatom emphasized that the project is being implemented in accordance with intergovernmental agreements between Russia and Egypt, as well as the EPC contract concluded with the Egyptian Nuclear Power Plants Authority (NPPA).
The project is under constant review by the relevant authorities of both countries, including the Egyptian Nuclear and Radiological Regulation Authority (ENRRA).
"The high level of work organization, quality management system, and safety culture is confirmed by the ongoing attention to the project from the political leadership of the Russian Federation and the Arab Republic of Egypt, as well as the management of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), whose representatives regularly participate in key project events," Rosatom stated.
The company also reported that one of the most recent significant events was the ceremonial installation of the reactor vessel for Unit 2, which was attended by the Egyptian Prime Minister, Rosatom management, and the IAEA Director General. According to the company, this event was completed ahead of schedule.
"Rosatom State Corporation, JSC ASE, and the Nuclear Power Plants Authority of Egypt (NPPA) continue to closely cooperate in the spirit of strategic partnership. The project is being implemented by joint Russian-Egyptian teams of specialists in design, construction, quality assurance, commissioning preparation, and regulatory affairs," the press service noted.
Rosatom specifically noted that the allegations made in the Politico article were not substantiated by the procedures stipulated in the project.
“None of the allegations made in the Politico report were substantiated by the contractual, technical, and oversight procedures required by the project,” the company concluded.
