Romanian film “The Law School Gang” set for screening in Tashkent

A showing of the Romanian film “The Law School Gang” is scheduled for 6 p.m. on Oct. 25, 2026, at the Alisher Navoi Palace of National Cinematic Art of Uzbekistan (15 Navoi Avenue). Directed by Mihaela Anitei and written by Emanuel Parvu, the film stars Tudor Cucu-Dumitrescu and Ileana Puiu. It was released in 2025. The screening is being jointly arranged by the Embassy of Romania and the Delegation of the European Union, with support from the Cinematography Agency under the Ministry of Culture of Uzbekistan, as part of the 11th European Film Festival.

The story centers on seven law students who go through major hardships. It is an emotionally resonant tale of solidarity, mutual support and genuine friendship tested over time.

The Embassy of Romania in Uzbekistan is inviting moviegoers to attend the screening. Admission is free. The film will be presented in Romanian with Uzbek subtitles.

Uzbekistan is a highly valued partner of Romania in Central Asia, and bilateral cooperation has advanced very successfully in recent years. Romania places great importance on developing ties with Uzbekistan in all fields, including cinema. Working with Uzbekistan’s Cinematography Agency, the Romanian Embassy has twice organized Romanian Film Days in Tashkent. The first edition was held in 2022 and included the feature film “Next to Me” (directed by Teddy Neculae) and the historical epic “The Dacians” (directed by Sergiu Nicolaescu). Director Neculae and actor Adrian Padurariu came to Tashkent for meetings with local film professionals. The second edition took place last year to commemorate the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Romania and Uzbekistan, featuring “Soldier Boy” (directed by Marian Crisan) and “Horia” (directed by Ana-Maria Comanescu). Both events are remembered as major moments in cultural cooperation between the two countries.

In 2023, at the 15th Tashkent International Film Festival, “Pearl of the Silk Road,” Romania was represented by two films: “The Father Who Moves Mountains” (directed by Daniel Sandu) and “Mikado” (directed by Emanuel Parvu). Romania also participates each year in screenings held for Francophonie Days in Tashkent, where the films shown between 2022 and 2025 included “Wild Romania,” “Wind Seeker,” “Maria, the Heart of Romania” and “Good Guys Go to Heaven.”

Last year, the Uzbek film “Abu Isa Muhammad al-Tirmidhi: The Scholar From Termez” was screened with great success in the Romanian cities of Bucharest and Techirghiol.
