Reports of a widespread measles outbreak in Tashkent have been refuted

It was stated that the epidemiological situation regarding measles in the city of Tashkent and across the entire country is stable, and "there is no reason for concern."

Reports of widespread measles in Tashkent denied

The press service of the Ministry of Health has commented on circulating reports stating that 290 suspected cases of measles were recorded in Tashkent city, and that more than 10,000 individuals who had been in contact with patients were registered.

"Currently, the epidemiological situation regarding measles in Tashkent city and across the entire country is stable. There is no cause for concern.

The figures circulating on social networks represent cumulative data recorded over the past nine months of 2026. Therefore, it is incorrect to interpret these numbers as cases identified in a short period or as the current situation," the statement reads.

It was noted that the measles incidence rate has decreased by 40 percent compared to the same period in 2025.

"Thus, the Committee for Sanitary-Epidemiological Welfare and Public Health asks social media users not to misinterpret the information," the report states.

For context, over the past nine months of this year in Tashkent city, as part of routine vaccination, 47,494 1-year-old children and 42,767 6-year-old children were vaccinated with the MMR (measles, mumps, rubella) vaccine.
