Renowned French expert appointed head coach of Senegal national team

French legend Patrick Vieira has been appointed as the new head coach of the Senegal national team. This will be the 50-year-old's first experience in national team management.

According to football insider Fabrizio Romano, Vieira has signed a contract with the Senegalese Football Federation and his appointment has been officially confirmed by the federation. The specialist will take charge of the team immediately.

Born in Dakar, Patrick Vieira spent most of his playing career with the French national team. He was a member of the team that won the 1998 World Cup and the 2000 European Championship.

At the club level, Vieira is best known for his work at Arsenal. He played for the London club for many years and captained the team that finished the English championship undefeated in the 2003/04 season.

During his coaching career, Vieira managed New York City, Nice, Crystal Palace, Strasbourg and Genoa. His last job was with the Italian club Genoa.

Vieira replaced Pap Thiau in the Senegal national team. Now the Frenchman will lead the Senegalese national team, which is entering a new phase after the World Cup.
