Ramzan Kadyrov won the election again with 99.85 percent of the vote

The head of Chechnya, Ramzan Kadyrov, won the election for the leadership of the republic again with 99.85 percent of the vote.

Kadyrov's opponents in the election, Ismoil Denilkhanov ("A Just Russia") and Khalid Nakayev (CPRF), each received 0.05 percent of the vote. Kadyrov has been leading Chechnya since 2007. He was nominated as a candidate for the election of the head of the republic by the "United Russia" party.

Russian President Vladimir Putin met with Ramzan Kadyrov in the Kremlin at the end of April 2026. At that time, he said that he trusted Kadyrov and that the head of Chechnya was conscientiously fulfilling his duty to the people and the state. The Russian president expressed confidence that Kadyrov would not let him down.

In July, Ramzan Kadyrov announced that he would participate in the election "out of necessity."

"If I were asked, I would have chosen another candidate, because this is a huge responsibility, I know how difficult of a task this is. I can say that I am going to the election out of necessity. I am sure the people will support me. If the people support me, I am ready to serve them," he said.

For reference, the elections for deputies of the State Duma were held in Russia on September 18-20, 2026. "United Russia" is leading in them with 57.87 percent of the vote.
