Qahramonjon Olimov has been put on the international wanted list. "Anorbank" requested not to link the situation to the bank's activities
"Anorbank" shareholder Qahramonjon Olimov has been arrested in absentia in Uzbekistan and put on the international wanted list. This was reported on September 18 by The Insider, citing a source close to Olimov.
The kidnapping of Qahramonjon Olimov in Paris may have been staged
According to the publication, there is no official information on the case, but The Insider's source says that Olimov may have staged his own kidnapping in France in June last year. In this way, he allegedly wanted to implicate his former employer and rival in an economic dispute, Botir Rahimov, as the organizer of the crime.
An investigation conducted in November of that year by The Insider and the French publication L’Express pointed out a number of inconsistencies in the details of the event. In particular, it was stated that after his release, Olimov continued friendly correspondence with one of the individuals he identified as his kidnappers. He warned him about the police and asked him to "stay away" to avoid getting caught.
Now, Qahramonjon Olimov is suspected of slandering Rahimov. Presumably, he intended to intimidate Rahimov with criminal prosecution to force him to drop the financial claims he had previously made against Olimov. Rahimov had previously accused Olimov of embezzling his business assets and demanded more than $200 million in compensation.
Against the backdrop of the above reports, "Anorbank" issued an official statement, describing the event as a personal matter of one of the shareholders, unrelated to the bank, its capital, management, or operational activities.
"Mixing these matters with the bank's activities is incorrect and unacceptable. No official confirmation or inquiry regarding this matter has been received by the bank. The information being circulated in various sources is not confirmed by official data and is not based on evidence verified by competent authorities," the statement reads.
It was added that the bank continues to operate in its normal mode, and all banking operations, customer service, as well as obligations to customers and partners, are being fulfilled as usual.
