Pumpkins weighing 25–40 kilograms have been grown in Uzbekistan
In Uzbekistan, giant pumpkin varieties imported from Italy are being grown on an experimental basis on an area of 150 hectares. Currently, the weight of the pumpkin fruits has reached 25–40 kilograms, and a total harvest of 7.5 thousand tons is expected by the end of the season.
Pumpkins weighing 25–40 kilograms have been grown in Uzbekistan
This year, a total of 600 kilograms of pumpkin seeds belonging to the Big Max, Atlantic Giant, and Mammoth Gold varieties were brought to Uzbekistan from Italy.
The seeds were planted on a total area of 150 hectares at experimental stations in all regions of the republic.
According to preliminary estimates, an average yield of 500 centners or 50 tons per hectare is expected from these varieties. The total harvest volume is projected to reach 7.5 thousand tons.
Currently, each of the pumpkins being grown in the experimental fields has reached a weight of 25 to 40 kilograms.
At the same time, work is also underway to teach farmers the technologies for growing giant pumpkin varieties.
In the Khonqa district of the Khorezm region, a practical seminar was organized with the participation of a scientist for the heads of 312 farms. During the seminar, farmers were provided with explanations on the agrotechnologies of growing giant pumpkin varieties.
It is planned to continue such educational and practical seminars in other regions of Uzbekistan as well.
