Presidential spokesman Sherzod Asadov delivered a speech at the “Islamic Civilization: New World, New Initiatives” international media forum held at the Center for Islamic Civilization in Tashkent.
At the forum, Sherzod Asadov expressed his views on the threats facing modern journalism, the role of artificial intelligence, freedom of speech, the importance of national media and journalists in society.
“Today, information knows no borders. News about an event reaches millions of people in a matter of seconds. However, along with information, lies, manipulation, fake news, and information attacks are also spreading rapidly. Therefore, one of the most important tasks facing journalism today is to provide reliable information,” he said.
Sherzod Asadov also touched upon the rapid introduction of artificial intelligence into journalism. He noted that artificial intelligence will not replace the journalist, but rather expand his capabilities.
“No matter how much technology develops, the main criteria of journalism - truth, objectivity, conscience and the principles of serving the interests of the people - must remain unchanged,” the presidential press secretary said.
He also raised the issue of the real crisis of freedom of speech as one of the global problems of modern journalism today. He noted that in some cases, the transformation of freedom of speech into a tool of political pressure undermines the objectivity and credibility of journalism.
According to Sherzod Asadov, protecting national interests does not mean closing off from the world. On the contrary, it means relying on facts, objectively analyzing events and establishing an open dialogue with society.
The presidential press secretary also noted that the task of a journalist is not limited to delivering information. The journalist listens to people's concerns, raises their problems, and ensures that the public's voice reaches government agencies.
At the same time, Sherzod Asadov noted that the fact that the forum is being held at the Center for Islamic Civilization has a special symbolic meaning. This facility, established at the initiative of the President, serves to introduce the world to the many millennial scientific and spiritual heritage of our people.
He noted that the heritage of such great scholars as Khorezm, Beruni, Ibn Sina, Imam Bukhari, Imam Termidzi, Imam Moturidi, Ulugbek, and Alisher Navoi is an invaluable treasure of all mankind. The fact that the name Khorezm lives on today in the term "algorithm" also indicates that the heritage of our ancestors is inextricably linked with modern science and technology.
Sherzod Asadov emphasized the need to preserve national heritage not only in museums and books, but also to present it in modern digital formats, in a language understandable to the younger generation, and impartially to the world community.
