Silence instead of fireworks: the Taliban brought order to Afghan weddings

Peace and Quiet

The Afghan authorities have decided that the time for noisy celebrations is over: fireworks, firecrackers, and other pyrotechnics at weddings and holidays are now banned.

The Ministry for the Propagation of Virtue and the Prevention of Vice of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan explained this simply: exploding firecrackers scare people, cause anxiety and real psychological stress, as well as disturb public peace and trigger panic. According to the ministry, celebrations should be conducted in accordance with Islamic norms and Sharia principles — so that neighbors experience neither noise nor discomfort.

The ban applies to the entire chain: from the production and import of such products into the country to their sale and launching into the sky. Those who still decide to put on a fireworks display are promised proceedings under the current laws of Afghanistan and Sharia norms.
